Boozing With Willie: “The Velvet Kiss” (Made Using Baileys & Tequila Rose) – LUSHWORTHY

Well gentlemen, it’s that time of year again. Cupid is on the prowl, love is in the air and that special someone in your life is awaiting to see just how romantic of a night you have planned. Yeah, it’s the special day we call Valentine’s Day, the day we all express our love to our significant other and smother each other with kisses and hugs. Flowers, dinner, maybe a small, sentimental gift, it’s all well and good, but it’s been done over and over and over again. Your lady wants to see you get creative and unless you were born with a singing voice like yours truly (not true, but it sounds good) you might be in a bit of a bind. However, Ol’ Willie boy here has got you covered.

Her tastes buds will melt when she tastes The Velvet Kiss. This red velvet cake inspired cocktail will have you looking cooler than Clark Gable back in 1939 on the silver screen. Before things heat up, keep her cool with this blend of Tequila Rose liqueur, Baileys Irish Creme and last, but certainly not least red velvet Oreo cookies. Scroll down, get the recipe and thank me in the comments. Happy Valentine’s Day everybody, cheers!

INGREDIENTS

1.5 oz Tequila Rose Strawberry Liqueur 0.5 oz Baileys Irish Creme Splash of Strawberry Liqueur 4-6 Red Velvet Oreo Cookies 1 Cup of Ice Strawberry Syrup

I can’t believe I’m writing this blog post right now. Is summer over already? I mean, I know we’ve got a gazillion more weeks of sweltering heat left here in Atlanta, but I’m surprised that we’ve almost knocked out yet another season this year. Thankfully though, this Labor Day weekend is sure to be a cocktail-filled one, so I can leave my bewilderment at the door at least for a few days.

No need to fret over what sips you should serve this holiday weekend because I’ve compiled a list of drink recipes from Skinnygirl, Belvedere Vodka, 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, and a handful of other boozy brands, that are sure to please even the most finicky of cocktail lovers..Cheers to a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

Lushworthy Travel: Avoid A Fall Freak Out With A Trip To The Ritz-Carlton South Beach – LUSHWORTHY

I’ll give it to you, summer. You’re cute. With your beach-worthy weather, tropical drinks, fancy sunblocks, and other summery niceties. But I’m more of a fall gal, myself (hello boots and leggings!). With that being said, I’m definitely not in the majority. In fact, I’m sure most of the country (especially those in the North) have already found themselves dreading counting down the remaining weeks of summer. If you’ve already found yourself on the verge of a “fall freakout” then it may be time to get away to a place where the heat’s present nearly year round and the cocktails are oh so Lushworthy. I’m talking about South Beach, Miami, ladies and gents.

I had the opportunity to visit Miami earlier this year and during my stay I spent one night at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach. Although The Ritz-Carlton is smack dab in the middle of all the action on South Beach, it boasts an inviting solitude. The lobby area is dimly-lit, but still warm. A nice change from the sensory overload one can endure on Collins Ave, which the hotel rests on the corner of. And the pool area, my personal favorite, is a welcomed surprise in a city where teeny, tiny rooftop pools seem to be all the rave. The pool itself is pretty large. Large enough to where if you happen to visit at the right time you may even be able to get your Michael Phelps on without swimming directly into a middle-aged, European tourist.

Sangria on the beach! A great way to beat any upcoming fall blues.

Oh, and did I mention the plethora of beachy cocktails available at The Ritz-Carlton South Beach? We’re talking sipping sangria while beachside and later moving to frothy, frozen drinks by the pool once you start getting sand in highly unwelcomed places. While on the beach we ordered the watermelon sangria, which was very refreshing. There were about four servings in the pitcher and while the sangria was tasty I felt like I had to drink it up pretty quickly to keep from sipping on a super-diluted sangria due to all the ice placed in the pitcher.

Next up was “The Vice,” a sort of daiquiri/pina colada hybrid cocktail (pictured above). Two-in-one frozen cocktails can be kind of hit-or-miss for me, but I’ll give it to The Ritz, “The Vice” was pretty darn delicious. A minor warning though, if you plan on indulging in “The Vice” before a meal you may want to sip slowly. I made the mistake of nearly slurping down my cocktail right before I ate, so by the time our food started to arrive I felt like I inhaled at least one Chick-fil-A value meal. In conclusion, “The Vice” is hella delicious and also doubles as a meal substitute (okay, not really, but do sip in moderation).

If Lushworthy cocktails, blue waters, and luxury hotels are your thing, which face it they’re pretty much everybody’s “thing,” then it’s probably time to head on down to The Ritz-Carlton South Beach.

***A complimentary stay was provided by The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, but the thoughts in this post are fully my own.

Lushworthy News: D’USSE XO Enters The Market, Captain Morgan Introduces New Commemorative Blend – LUSHWORTHY

Following the launch of D’USSE in 2012, the Bacardi-owned brand has welcomed its first expression, D’USSE XO. Described as “a unique blend of meticulously hand-selected eaux-de-vie, aged ten years or more,” D’USSE XO is said to boast “flavor notes of ripe blackberry and apricot, layered with hints of dark chocolate and walnut.” Sounds like a boozy trip to Godiva Chocolatier. And that definitely works for me.

“Following the highly successful launch of D’USSE VSOP, there is an opportunity to lead the evolution of the Cognac category even further,” said Robert Furniss-Roe, President of Bacardi North America. “Consumers are fascinated with dark spirits and care more than ever about the quality and level of craftsmanship in the brands they consume. D’USSE XO is the response to that request.”

For a while the newly-introduced cognac was only available to the entertainment and cocktailing elite, but now you can get your hands on a bottle of D’USSE XO for a cool $230.

The Cap’n Welcomes New Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend.

Legend has it that Captain Henry Morgan lost five ships while traveling to Panama City, Panama in the late 1600’s. Among the ships he lost was his flagship, Satisfaction.

What was the point of that brief history lesson, you ask? Well, the new, limited edition Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend is inspired by the Satisfaction. In fact, Captain Morgan’s latest spirit is finished in Spanish Oak, which is said to have also been used in the barrels that were on board Captain Morgan’s doomed ship. Kinda cool, right?

Also cool is the fact that it’s one of few commemorative blends that’s affordable. You can get your hands on a bottle of Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend (750 mL) for only $19.99.

Lushworthy Pics: Hennessy V.S Hosts An “Illmatic” Brunch Celebration For Nas During Coachella – LUSHWORTHY

New York City wordsmith Nas has a lot to celebrate this month. He served as one of the headliners at the Coachella arts and music festival over the weekend. This month marks 20 years since he released his classic debut, Illmatic. (All you need to do is peep this IG pic to understand my excitement about that feat) And lastly, the rapper’s Time Is Illmatic documentary will open this week at the Tribeca Film Festival. And to celebrate all of Nas’ accomplishments, Hennessy V.S held an intimate brunch at Ingleside Inn in Palm Springs, California on Sunday (April 13).

Among those in attendance at Hennessy and Nas’ boozy brunch (because booze and brunch go together like Jay and Bey) were actors Lance Gross and Damon Wayans, and So So Def’s own Jermaine Dupri. During the brunch, guests sipped on a bevy of Hennessy cocktails including the “Desert Cooler” while noshing on waffles poolside. Okay, I actually have no idea what they ate, but I think it’s safe to say that waffles were included in the mix.

You can check out a few pics from the event below, courtesy of Hennessy V.S.

Sauza & Cinco: A Recap Of My Lushworthy, Cinco De Mayo Backyard Party – LUSHWORTHY

With Cinco de Mayo taking place on a Monday (womp womp), a number of people including myself got the party started a little early this year. Over the weekend I hosted a Cinco de Mayo get together in my backyard, which proved to be most ideal given the picture perfect weather on Saturday. The margaritas were of course plentiful thanks to Sauza tequila who sent over a bottle of Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila and their new Sauza Sparkling Margarita Watermelon.

Sauza has plenty of unique margarita recipes, which I’ve listed below, but I was in the mood for something a little more traditional, so I stuck with a basic margarita. But for presentation’s sake I did add a handful of strawberries and lime slices to the pitcher of margaritas. Definitely a wise move. It looked pretty darn amazing and drew a bunch of ultra-inquistive “Mmm…what’s in this?!” from partygoers. Also, I have to say that I love the convenience of the Sauza Sparkling Margarita line. It’s a ready-to-serve beverage, so there’s no mixing involved. Just pour and add a garnish if you like, and you’re good to go.

Now we all know that no Cinco de Mayo shindig is complete without some serious grub. In addition to Herdez salsa and chips, I also made a bunch of quesadillas using Herdez’ Traditional Chipotle Mexican Cooking Sauce. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but they were thee bomb. Not the bomb, but thee bomb. For some tragic reason I’ve never made quesadillas using any type of sauce and now that I have it’s definitely an ingredient I will always use. As you can see from the picture below, I used the Herdez cooking sauce while sauteing the chicken and jalapenos, which were later placed in the quesadillas along with some shredded cheese.

I was kind of in a hurry on Saturday, so I completely missed out on making my Mexican Chipotle Potatoes. I did make them on Sunday though since it was something I really wanted to try, and I have to say that it was a dish that benefited from the addition of Herdez’ Traditional Chipotle Mexican Cooking Sauce. I used a slightly altered version of this recipe I found on BBC Good Food. I didn’t use any sauteed onions or add any spices, and once the potatoes were almost fully cooked I added a few spoonfuls of the Herdez sauce. I topped the cooked potatoes with sour cream, cheese, and jalapenos, and proceeded to enjoy back-to-back bowls. Definitely not a wise move for someone who plans on traveling to Miami in less than two weeks, but I simply cannot deny the power of the potato.

As you can probably tell from the IG picture below, we all had a great time at my backyard fiesta. Thanks to everyone who came out and special thanks to Sauza!

Happy Cinco de Mayo and be sure to check out the Sauza recipes below for a little cocktail inspiration for today’s boozy holiday.

Drink Recipes: Beat The Heat With Boozy Popsicles From Basil Hayden’s Bourbon – LUSHWORTHY

Boozy popsicles have become somewhat of a summer staple this season. They may not pack a lot of punch, but they’re a tasty and refreshing way to enjoy your favorite spirits when the summer heat is at its peak.

It’s somewhat rare to come across a spiked popsicle recipe that calls for the addition of bourbon, so I was pretty excited when I came across two recipes for popsicles that are made using Basil Hayden’s Bourbon. They were created by Los Angeles-based mixologist Rob Floyd and both sound and look pretty amazing. Check out the recipes below, cheers!

A Lushworthy Guide To The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival Tasting Tents – LUSHWORTHY

As much as I love the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, it can definitely be overwhelming at times. The annual festival, which will take place from May 29 to June 1, includes various dinners, seminars, and tasting tents. The tasting tents alone are enough to bring foodies and boozies (is that a word yet?) to their knees with joy.

In case things get a little too overwhelming, I’ve gone ahead and created somewhat of a Lushworthy-inspired tasting tent cheat sheet for the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival (AFWF). Below you’ll find the names of a handful of brands that will all have tents during the festival. I’ve also included a brief description as to why I think you should check ’em out. Oh, and the three digit number in bold at the end of each description shows where you can find their tent on the official festival map.

Campari America –  With over 45 spirits to its name, you can be sure that Campari America will be slinging some must-have cocktails during AFWF. 191

Savannah Sweet Tea Lemonade Bourbon – I’m not terribly familiar with this brand, but since I’m obsessed with the city of Savannah, bourbon, and both sweet tea and lemonade, this sounds like a solid tasting tent winner. 186

Wines Of Chile – If you’re a lover of all things vino then I’m sure you’re quite familiar with the wines coming out of the Southern American country of Chile. It’s said to be some of the best in the world. Even if you’re not a wine lover you should still indulge in at least a few sips. 209

St. Germain – Hands down one of my favorite liqueurs! Rest assured that whatever St. Germain is mixing up at AFWF, it will be delicious. 214

Three Taverns Craft Brewery – Craft beer made right in Decatur, Georgia? This one’s a no-brainer folks. 107

Patron / King Of Pops Carts – Homemade popsicles spiked with tequila anyone? The Patron-sponsored King Of Pops cart has gradually become a favorite among festival-goers. Their popsicles are also a great way to enjoy something light in between heavier tasting tent bites. 122

Ultimat Vodka Lemonade Stand – During AFWF, temperatures are expected to range from the mid to upper-80s. So, when you need help beating the heat, be sure to head over to the Ultimat Vodka Lemonade Stand for a refreshing lemonade and vodka cocktail. 164

Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream – I had the opportunity to sample this particular spirit at last year’s festival and it definitely found a place in both my heart and my list of favorite cream-based spirits. 119

Drink Recipes: Toast To National Tequila Day (July 24) With Cocktails From Don Julio, Herradura & More – LUSHWORTHY

If you plan on celebrating National Tequila Day by downing tequila shots with the assistance of a slice of lime and a lick of salt then please step away from that bag of organic limes, canister of Morton Salt, and cheap tequila, my friend. All those blue agave plants didn’t sacrifice themselves just so you could celebrate National Tequila Day like an overeager undergrad. No bueno. So, when this latest boozy holiday does roll around this Thursday (July 24), you should definitely consider one of these carefully-crafted, tequila-heavy recipes from Herradura, Don Julio, Sauza, and a handful of other tequila brands. Cheers!

Pineapple Serrano Margarita (Pictured Above)

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. Herradura Silver 3 cubic inches of pineapple diced ¾ oz lime juice ½ oz simple syrup

3 slices of Serrano chili with seeds.
