Why is it that the absolute worst singers love karaoke? As someone who falls under that category, I can say that I honestly have no idea. I just know that whenever I’m singing Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” at the top of my lungs with a group of friends, a good time is usually had. So, I have to say that when I saw Heineken’s “Carol Karaoke” commercial it brought a smile to my face as well as a little jealousy. I may sound like a combination of Gollum and a dying cat while singing, but there is absolutely no way I’m turning down a chance to have my karaoke experience broadcast in front of thousands.
Check out the video below to see what happened when Heineken surprised a group of karaoke-goers with just that opportunity.

With the A3C Hip Hop Festival and last night’s annual Flux Night art party, Atlanta has been absolutely crazy this weekend, but I am in no way complaining. From rooftop parties sponsored by Heineken to music industry panels held in Speakeasy-style bars, I had the opportunity to check out a variety of events over the weekend, but I have to say that my favorite was the Heineken Mural Project VIP party. Held smack dab in the middle of Castleberry Hill during Flux Night, the party took place in a previously abandoned building and included a solar stage powered by Tree Sound Studios and 3 Little Digs.
We arrived at the party just in time to see DJ Maseo of De La Soul spin a few tunes before being treated to a performance from renowned deejay and producer, DJ Premier. And man, did he play some jams! Lot’s of soul and 90’s R&B. He came in with some Aaliyah, switched it up a little with Groove Theory’s “Tell Me,” and then took us back to the 70’s. Pair that with some complimentary ice-cold Heineken and a live art installation courtesy of Heineken Mural Project street artists Chor Boogie, Clogtwo, Inkten, Marka27, Angwy Woebots, and Atlanta’s own Paper Frank, and it was a great night.
I haven’t had the opportunity to check out the murals in person yet, but they did show video projections from each of the mural locations throughout the night and they all looked pretty impressive. For more information on the murals, as well as their locations, visit the Heineken Mural Project website.
Kudos to Mali Hunter and the Retnuh Agency for bringing such a unique experience to Atlanta.

Over the past couple of years, Heineken has teamed up with the likes of New Era and Dee & Ricky for their “Heineken 100” program which celebrates tastemakers around the world. For their latest program Heineken has partnered with Los Angeles-based retail store Union LA and designer Mark McNairy to create an exclusive version of Mark McNairy’s classic saddle shoe.
“Union LA and Mark McNairy are excited to work with a stellar brand like Heineken for their coveted ‘Heineken 100’ program,” says Chris Gibbs, owner of Union LA. “When designing the shoe, Mark and I used Heineken’s signature kelly green color to provide an eye-catching colorway for the sole.”
I was a fan of Heineken’s collab with New Era, but this saddle shoe is hands down one of the best looking products to come out of the “Heineken 100” program in my opinion. The saddle shoe, which is made of leather, sports a green sole indicative of the Heineken brand. I’m all for a pop of color and it’s done perfectly on Heineken’s collab with Union LA and Mark McNairy. (Pictures courtesy of Heineken)
