I really am quite impressed with Malibu Rum’s limited edition Malibu Snowflake holiday bottle. When I first saw their limited edition bottle I thought the blue color and the snowflakes were part of the label, but after reading up on it it’s something far cooler. The snowflakes are actually pieces of coconut that give the illusion of falling snowflakes. Pretty cool, right? Only thing is I’m not sure if the rum is a blue color or if that’s just a label on the back of the bottle giving it that wintery blue color. Regardless it would still make for quite the pleasant looking addition to your bar this holiday season. Malibu Snowflake will sell for about $25.99.

If you’re going to have a one of a kind steak dinner at a place like South Beach’s Red The Steakhouse you really can’t pass on the cocktails. I mean, what’s a delicious meal without an even more delicious cocktail? Thankfully, Red has a number of cocktails to choose from including their seasonal “Pumpkin Cider.” Since spiked pumpkin cider is quite the standard holiday drink I was really impressed with how Red chose to make their drink stand out a bit with their use of both the roasted pumpkin cubes and ginger liquor. Creativity goes a long way in the world of cocktails and Red did a great job of adding a bit of uniqueness to their drink. And in case you can’t make it out to Red the recipe for their “Pumpkin Cider” is below.
4 oz warm apple cider
.5 oz snap ginger liquor
1.5 oz Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
Combine all ingredients in a mug. Garnish with nutmeg and roasted pumpkin cubes.
Along with new ownership it appears that Buckhead’s Mood Lounge has also whipped up a few new cocktails for fall. Well more specifically head mixologists Russell Donovan and Jacob Strawn have created Mood’s clever new cocktails. Below is a sampling of what you can expect at the “new” Mood Lounge.
Adam’s Temptation – Blanton’s bourbon, plum gastrique, ginger syrup and orange zest.
Thai Tomato Chip – Prairie vodka, tomato water, wasabi, sriracha, lime juice, soy sauce and Thai basil. (Shown in the picture above.)
Frankly Scarlett – Hendrick’s gin, St. Germain, unfiltered apple juice, rose water and extract, simple syrup and rose petal garnish.
Pegu Club Cocktail – Martin Miller’s gin, orange curacao, fresh lime juice, angostura bitters and orange bitters.
Jennings Daiquiri – Depaz blue cane rum, sugar and fresh lemon juice.
On top of the creative concoctions listed above Mood Lounge will also be serving up a number of tasty bites including artichoke and parmesan dip, pulled BBQ brisket sliders, lump crab seafood cocktail, and more.
The holiday season is all about giving so it’s of course the perfect time to take part in the (RED) campaign. Among the many (RED) partners you can support are Converse, Dell, American Express, Starbucks, and even Belvedere Vodka. To help promote (Belve) RED, Belvedere has enlisted the help of internationally known singer Usher Raymond to assist in spreading the word. To learn more about the (RED) campaign visit JoinRED.com.
Don’t get me wrong I love a nice pumpkin, egg nog, or chocolate-based holiday cocktail just as much as the next person. But you have to admit that after awhile these standard holiday cocktail recipes get a bit boring. So I was definitely excited to see this very creative holiday drink recipe from Cruzan Rum. Their holiday cocktail is called the “Cruzan 9 NOVA” and it takes its inspiration from the classic “Bossa Nova” cocktail. What makes the “Cruzan 9 NOVA” unique in my opinion is the fact that instead of using egg nog or pumpkin they chose to use pineapple and apricot as their main ingredients. I’m still getting the holiday vibe with the drink, but at the same time it’s an unexpected although impressive choice of ingredients.
In honor of the upcoming 100th anniversary of Henry Flagler’s Florida Keys Over-Sea Railroad a 22-year-old student has created an award-winning drink recipe celebrating the momentous occasion. The name of the drink is ”Flagler’s Rusty Spike” and it was created by New Jersey native turned Floridian Joshua Zajac.
“I pondered what I could mix together that I could call a ‘Rusty Spike,’” said Zajac in a statement. “I remember drinking warm apple cider during cold days while growing up in New Jersey.”
On top of being the top cocktail at the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce’s 30th Annual Cookoff, “Flagler’s Rusty Spike” is also a very fall/winter friendly drink. So feel free to whip up this cocktail for a celebration of your own this season.
‘Tis the season for egg nog and with the start of the holiday season comes a variety of unique spiked egg nog drink recipes. The folks over at the Library Bar in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel are serving up a very interesting take on this beloved holiday cocktail. Their specialty egg nog is called “White Truffle Egg Nog” and consists of truffle-infused cream, cognac, agave syrup, and a truffle-infused egg. And if you find the directions below a bit tedious then don’t forget you can always get yourself a “White Truffle Egg Nog” at the Library Bar if you happen to be in the area. (Drink recipe is created by mixologist Matthew Biancaniello.)
Wow, I think I just caught a toothache watching Amber Rose’s new Smirnoff commercial. Marshmallows galore, copious amounts of whipped cream…how sweet, literally. Not quite sure how I feel about the commercial, but I am very eager to try the new Whipped Cream and Fluffed Marshmallow flavors.
